From PISA-Test to the "Good School". The roots of the ethical and democratic deficit in the current school policies

Vasco D’Agnese

In 2015 intervention on La buona Scuola Act, Massimo Baldacci highlights Government Act’s weaknesses and critical points; weaknesses and critical points that, in turn, run the risk of framing Italian school as the site where processes and dynamics are thought and acted without reference to educational logics (Baldacci, 2015). The aim of this paper is to offer an analysis of such weaknesses by locating Government’s politics in international scenario. Specifically, I am referring to the politics enacted by OECD’s through its well known Assessment tool, PISA. By analysing OECD’s key documents, including web-pages, video and publications, I wish to argue that the ethical as well as the political dimension of education are erased by PISA. I also wish to argue that such a gesture tends to erase educational founding features and phenomena, such as critical agency and democratic education.
