Affirming Inclusion as a Value. «Shattering Intersubjectivity» and Professional Subjectification

Stefano Oliverio

After discussing a debate within the German sociological community, where the legitimacy and significance of the pedagogical distinction between integration and inclusion are contested, the paper offers an interpretation of inclusion as a Wertpräferenz. It draws on some insights from Hans Joas, introducing the distinction between norms and values. The claim of inclusion as a «value» is then connected to Deweyan reflections on the judgment of practice. This capacity for judgment is here interpreted in the light of the notion of «methodological character» to be promoted through teacher training programs aimed at fostering professional subjectification.
