The digital competences of final year Bachelor of Education Science students: A phenomenological study

Erick Renato Valenzuela-Valenzuela, Armando Lozano-Rodríguez, José Manuel Ochoa-Alcántar

The present research adopted a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to analyze the experiences of senior students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Educational Sciences regarding the level of acquisition and/or improvement of their digital competence during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings revealed that these students perceive themselves to have an intermediate level of digital competence, influenced significantly by the pandemic’s impact on education. They do not identify with having basic skills, nor do they believe they have reached a professional level. This highlights the need for continued efforts to help students achieve professional mastery tailored to the specific demands and contexts in which they are engaged.
