Review on international teacher Induction Training programs

Berta Martini

This article provides a critical review of European Induction Programs. While there is a great deal of literature on the initial training of teachers, the problems they face, and how these problems can be improved, the literature concerning early career training and support for novice teachers and best practices in induction training is more scarce. This article aims to identify which models and elements are considered most effective in acculturating novices to the profession. The article is divided into three parts. The first presents European guidelines on novice teacher training. The second describes the characteristics of some induction programs in different European countries. Finally, the third part briefly outlines research results on the impact of Induction Programs on various aspects of teacher education.
