Learning communities in Spain

Paolo Scotton

The article analyses the main motivations and aims of the pedagogical project represented by learning communities. A project that, over the last twenty years, has been increasingly consolidated and implemented, in particular in Latin-American educational systems. The article considers this project in relation to the theoretical discussion about the growing importance of diffused and lifelong learning, conceived as an indispensable means for fostering critical citizenship within our current information society. Accordingly, it studies both the conceptual framework and the best practices that characterise learning communities. Moreover, it offers a critical discussion of this project, underlying potential limits and problems.
