The transition to secondary school represents the first important educational choice in an adolescent’s life, in which multiple variables are involved. This study aims to investigate the role of parents in the process of secondary school choice. Data were collected on a sample of N= 341 students enrolled in secondary schools in Northern Italy. Their average age is 12 years (DS = 0.50). The obtained results indicate that perceived parental support is associated with higher psychological capital and perceived guidance needs, which, in turn, result in positive future orientation. This is a subjective view that encourages goal setting and plans about the future.
