Disability associations: between State and civil society

Associations for persons with disabilities have played an important role in bringing issues related to disability onto the national agenda in Italy. These organisations have tended either to represent fragmented subsets of people with disabilities or, more recently, to form large federations: a dialogue between the world of pedagogy and didactics and this world is necessary for a more complete understanding of disability.
