Methodological implications of the religious principle in Salesian education
Michal Vojtáš
Starting from the distinction of John Bosco, the article will analyze two threads of preventive methodology: the first is generally repressive and the second is mostly promotional. The two methods will be connected with their underlying anthropologies which will be subsequently viewed in the relation to the religious principle. The article will focus on three different historical periods, chosen in accordance to the major developments of the Salesian education: (1) the years of Don Bosco’s pedagogical synthesis; (2) the centenary from the death of Don Bosco until the post-Vatican II; (3) the beginning of the third millennium. The relationship between the principle of religion and the Salesian educational methodology has evolved over time and it seems that in the present times, the methodology of educational planning, primary prevention and character education could meet in a synergic way with the salesian religious anthropology.
