«As fragile as humans». Starting from fragility for an anthropological reinterpretation of the digital world

Cristiano Ciferri

The primary goal of this article is to initially define the significance of the cultural context (frame) originated by the digital revolution. The Western world, which intends to position itself as a paradigm in this context, has provoked a crisis of complexity that must be acknowledged and addressed. By comparing the ideas of authors, such as Bauman, Ferraris, and Floridi, the role and task of humanity within the infosphere and its relationship with other inforgs, that inhabit the digital world alongside it, are outlined. A world as fragile as humans, but it is precisely this fragility that gives rise to and founds relationships, particularly communicative ones. The first step is therefore to take on this fragility, with trust and hope, and to start again from it. To do this, an anthropological proposal is needed to guide choices, not «despite» the fragility of humanity and the digital context in which it lives, but precisely «starting from» the specific potentialities that fragility, like a treasure chest, contains.
