Comparative education: Potentials and weaknesses of a discipline

Although in a globalized world comparative education (CE) constitutes a field of study of particular relevance, its role at the academic level and its diffusion at university level are characterized by a different importance depending on the country, and the debate in the literature involves its very definition as a discipline. The article intends to address this issue, recalling the evolution of CE and analyzing the present situation. The concluding observations not only indicate problems and perspectives, but also confirm the disciplinary nature of CE.
