Pedagogical reflections on a path of education for peace in the district of Gorongosa in Mozambique

The article aims to reflect on a path of peace education carried out in the Gorongosa district, in Mozambique, as part of the international cooperation project «Resilience in Gorongosa: integrated and participatory intervention for lasting peace in the Gorongosa Serra», promoted by the NGO Helpcode in collaboration with the Peace School of Monte Sole from 2016 to 2018. The activities of the project involved a group of teachers from primary and secondary schools in the district and began after of a bloody phase of the clashes between the two major political forces in the country: RENAMO and FRELIMO. The article focuses on the theoretical orientations and methodological approaches that characterized the path of education for peace, the changes that have been generated and the most significant challenges encountered. Particular attention is paid to the possibilities opened up by the adoption of the Theater of the Oppressed as a tool for the nonviolent transformation of conflicts.
