Teaching students from poverty. The approach and guidelines of Eric Jensen

Marco Bay

Eric Jensen’s approach and guidelines on teaching students coming from situations of poverty are essentially and succinctly re-proposed by one of the quick guides from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. The editor of the contribution substantially highlights the elements that a teacher must master according to Jensen’s guidelines and that lead to effective results in the didactic field. Some descriptive elements of the Italian national context have been inserted according to the Istat, Caritas and Direzione Generale dell’immigrazione e delle politiche di integrazione to detect a current and serious phenomenon which should be taken into consideration also in Italy. Taking care of students who are experiencing poverty is urgent and must today be part of the repertoire of teachers’ skills.
