Literacy e tecnologie: dimensioni d’uso e ruolo della scrittura nell’era digitale

Liana Peria

Within the framework of the multiple literacies that are essential for the active and responsible participation in society of the 21st century, writing might not have the prominent place that historically was crucial to the development of human thought. The deep literacy which traditionally has always had a great part in school curricula, today seems to live a kind of misting. Among the new alphabets disseminated through the social networks, the most common shows a kind of digital writing which is more close to orality than to the typical ways of text planning and composition. This phenomenon leads us to reflect on the ongoing changing processes and to engage in a deep rethinking of writing itself. This article starts with an analysis of the multifaceted nature of the concept of literacy and then proposes a reflection (a) on the role of writing as a strong and structured literacy and (b) on the need to strengthen the dimensions of its use without being in conflict with the pervasive practices of informal writing that characterise the communication of digital era.
