«Why the calculator to a dyslexics?». Educational reflections and operational proposals

Providing a calculator to a dyslexic, as a compensatory measure, might sound like a contradiction because dyslexia is a specific disorder in reading and not in numerical and computational fields. In recent years, however, it has become increasingly clear how difficult it is to understand specific learning disorders without taking into account their comorbidities and multi-componential factors that characterise the development of reading, writing and arithmetic skills. In this study we report observations conducted on a sample of 94 primary school children, in order to understand what relationship there is between dyslexia and mathematics difficulties and to provide appropriate operational proposals.
