Proactive personality and time perspective in young people

Manuela Zambianchi

The construct of “proactive personality” identifies a stable, inner disposition toward active intervention in the environment in order to modify unsatisfying situations, overcome obstacles and search for challenges. The study evaluated the association between the time perspective and proactive personality in a sample of 388 undergraduates and the time perspective profile of specific sub-groups based on their level of proactive tendency. Results highlighted a significant positive correlation between positive past, hedonistic present, positive future and proactive personality, while negative correlations emerged between negative past, negative future and proactive personality. Cluster analysis highlighted three specific patterns of time perspective, corresponding to as many levels of personal proactivity.
