Resilience and adaptability as protective factors for the meaning of life of young people

Giuseppe Crea

In the contemporary world of work, people are increasingly engaged in career choices that serve to cope with changes in working conditions. In this scenario, the prospect of a life full of meaning and the ability to adapt are at risk. The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between Career Adaptability and the meaning of life, taking into account the role of resilience in a group of 469 working-students. The participants (67.3% women, mean age = 41.90; SD = 12.54) completed the Questionnaire on Career Adaptability (QAP), the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) and the Purpose in Life Scale (PILS) on the meaning of life. The data show that resilience partially mediates the relationship between career adaptability and life meaning. Furthermore, the results confirm that adaptability is a resource that can be educated through resilience. Finally, the motivational aspects given by a meaningful life mediate the effect on the capacity of the person to be flexible along the life trajectories of his existence.
