From Scientific Literature to Training Interventions

Manuela Zambianchi

The Covid-19 Pandemic amounts to a true collective traumatic event, with a profound impact on individuals and society. Through an in-depth study of psychological scientific literature, the article intends to return a complex reading of this critical event at the interface between the individual and social dimensions. This is done by means of in-depth analysis of three psychological dimensions of this planetary event, which could constitute as many areas of specific training courses in both theoretical and workshop settings. The first dimension relates to the emotional and cognitive impact of the traumatic event, with reference to emotional responses and the shattered assumptions theory. The second dimension concerns the perception and representation of time and the impact that the pandemic can have on it. The third dimension concerns the social construction of the pandemic, which was analysed by means of the theory of social representations, with particular attention paid to the relationship between scientific language and common language, one of the central themes of the contemporary debate on communication relating to Covid-19, with important repercussions on the attitudes, beliefs and behaviours of individuals and social groups. After an examination of literature, several concrete suggestions for active participation workshops are also presented and discussed.
