Consultation and counseling processes as action-research practice and generation of social capital

Emanuele Testa, Giuseppe Scaratti, Silvia Ivaldi

This contribution explores an articulated consultation intervention carried out within a federation of nursery schools operating in a region of northern Italy. The reasons for an intertwining of consultation, training and research are explored, along with their possible declination in the activation of processes for generating relevant and transformative knowledge, typical of the action research approach. Following this theoretical framework, the contribution describes the context in which the intervention was carried out, highlighting the complex dimensions and underlying challenges implied and illustrating the methodological device adopted to address them. Finally, the main cognitive outcomes achieved are illustrated and discussed and a series of reference coordinates aimed at innovating and promoting participation and communication practices between the various stakeholders involved are highlighted in the articulated scenario of childhood education, and in line with a psycho-socio-organisational perspective oriented towards the generation of social capital.
