Social networks in personnel selection: Evidence from scientific literature
Marco Giovanni Mariani, Giulia Santi
Professional and non-professional social networks are increasingly used in personnel search and selection procedures. This article, which is based on empirical evidence from scientific literature, aims to provide an initial overview of the limits and strengths of these practices. The results of the studies are reported with reference to the validity of assessments based on social networks and to the reactions of candidates to the use of these procedures. The picture that emerges urges us to adopt extreme caution in the use of these tools to evaluate candidates.
