From the edges to the center: Assimilation, integration and inclusion. Practices and reflections on social inclusion for foreign immigrants
Giulio Olivato
Work towards integration is necessary, but risks being emptied of meaning without taking society as a whole into consideration. This implies: the transformation of institutions, equal access to services, bureaucratic simplification, as well as a more empathetic and welcoming towards foreign immigrants. Work that is oriented towards inclusion, however, is the crucial missing piece to ensure that every individual is a full member of society. A socio-political change is necessary to promote intercultural interaction that fosters mutual understanding.
