Becoming/being a teacher with disabilities: Research, data and emerging themes in the Italian context, in the light of the international scene

Italy is lacking literature. This article analyses the research, the quantitative data and the legislation of our country related to the training of teacher candidates with disabilities, as well as their work in schools. We discuss the tensions that arise in the assessment of the essential functions of teaching and possible coping strategies and contextual adaptations that, if developed, allow people with disabilities the accomplishment of the profession in an effective manner, showing also their added value.
