Psychological well-being and the meaning of life between self-direction and self-transcendence. A pilot research aimed at a sample of Psychology students

Domenico Bellantoni, Giuseppe Crea, Lucia Lucarelli, Antonio Palummieri

The pilot research involves 90 university students (Females = 79; Males = 11; average age M= 22,2; SD = 1,50), attending the psychology curriculum, confirms the positive correlation between psychological well-being and the Franklian construct of «meaning of life». The mutual influences of these two constructs are also verified with those relating to self-direction, as conceived by DSM-5 (APA, 2014), and the analytical-existential concept of self-transcendence. Finally, it seems that the hypothesis of a positive influence of attending the course of studies in psychology on the growth of all the constructs indicated above can be confirmed.
