The teaching of the catholic religion in the italian school and the challenge of religious pluralism

Carlo Macale

This contribution aims to reflect on the issue of the teaching of the Catholic religion in Italian schools in a time of religious pluralism. After a brief historical introduction necessary to understand the pedagogical development of the discipline with its didactic implications, the article reaches the focus of the question: to understand if the teaching of the Catholic religion is an obstacle (or not) to the coexistence of religious pluralism in Italian schools. There is also a comparison with the possible «alternative» proposals for teaching the Catholic religion that have followed in recent times.
