Rationale for a project of ethics

Antonio Meli

The modern philosophers have failed to give us a true ethics rational justification. This is due to the fact that they, as a whole, reject that interpretation teleological interpretation of human nature, which for centuries had provided sufficient justification ethos. Without a teleological structure it becomes impossible to justify moral behavior, in particular the obligation of moral norms. At this point we are faced with a choice: either go through with Nietzsche denouncing the illusory (the fictional character) of any possible ethical project and relying on the sheer will to power that intends to place itself beyond good and hurt, or return to a teleological interpretation of human nature, which alone makes possible a rational justification of ethics. The article takes up the ethical project expressed by Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics second receiving operated by Thomas Aquinas.
