The subclinical traits of anti-social personality and emotional influence in a group of young Italian adults

Giuseppe Crea, Lorenzo Filosa

The Dark Triad represents a collection of three socially aversive traits, namely Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. In this study, we investigated the relations of the Dark Triad personality traits with the variables of the HEXACO model of personality and their association with the emotional intelligence. The results, based on the study of 309 Italian young adults aged between 18 and 22 years, show statistically relevant negative correlations between Dark Triad traits and HEXACO’s traits of Honesty-Humility, Agreeableness and Emotionality. On the other hand, only narcissism is positively associated with emotional intelligence. A preventive approach to the antisocial implications of Dark Triad were discussed.
