From black print to braille: A path of musical learning for blind students

Luciana Ferullo

This paper is the result of a direct experience of the author, a musician and expert of the braille writing system. It aims at involving, in particular, the non-blind reader, encouraging him to learn braille and being introduced, with genuine curiosity, to a system, which is not as indiscernible as it may first appear. Given the first basic elements, which refer to the organization of braille, 6 raised dots in a series of 7, a total of 64 characters in total and considering that there are two types of written music, the first in black print for non-blind and the second in the braille system for the blind, the author elaborates on certain considerations for better understanding in both music theory and practice.
