Internationalization and interculturality in university professor training: Phenomenological research

Maria Gabrielle Coelho Caldeira, Yuri Elias Gaspar

Our objective was to investigate the contributions of the doctoral internship experience abroad to training university professors. We conducted phenomenological research with four professors from UFVJM (Brazil) and analyzed the interviews based on three categories: human development, intercultural experience, and internationalization. We understood how the relationships experienced during the doctoral internship abroad can be formative when the subject verifies and positions himself personally in the face of what happens to him. When experiencing intercultural experiences, the person can open up and transform himself in the encounter with the other, reworking his conceptions of himself and the world. Internationalization, when experienced as an opportunity and learning, can contribute to academic, professional, and personal development, significantly impacting the integral training of university professors.
