The educational aspects of traditional yoga. Could the approach still be formative?

Enrico Casagrande

The purpose of this paper is to verify the existence of an actual educational effect of practising yoga in modern Western culture without involving the mysticism and philosophy from which it originates. The hypothesis asks, for questions of argumentative rigour, to observe the special characteristics of education in traditional Indian culture specifically the relationship between the guru (teacher) and chela (disciple). Cultural references and the methodology will be considered within the context of the original culture and where possible, ideas and techniques that can be confirmed by the natural sciences as a contribution to the educational aspect of yoga that is practised today will be proposed.
