Risk of parentification in adolescent children of separated parents. Results of an empirical research

Paolo Gambini, Elena Margiotta

A research was conducted on 1261 students (54% males; 46% females) between 14 and 18 years of age of three high schools, three technical schools and a Professional Training Centre of the Castelli Romani. The results confirm that the adolescent children of separated/divorced parents have higher levels of assuming parental roles of their own parents, are less inclined to superimpose themselves on their parents and easily engage in internalising behaviours.
