Historical-epistemological foundations of «projective» or «assessment» techniques. New directions

Laura Maresca

Within the psychodiagnostic testing the terms «test» or «technique», «projective» or «assessment» are often used in an interchangeable way and with no deep awareness. The present article aims to contribute for their clarification. It briefly retraces the historical origins of the so named instruments, and, through epistemological considerations, two suggestions are given: a) a new unifying label such as «comprehensive tools of clinical psychology», getting free of any personality theories: b) new directions for research, recovering correlational tradition.

Keywords
