These pages study articles of the review «Orientamenti Pedagogici» that focus attention on the formation of pastoral agents, especially clergy. It is interesting to find in the Fifties, proposals based on the competent exercise of the educational mission, relevance in research, impact on society. The articles offer valuable reflection, inviting to do a serious examination of the territory that allows for highly qualified interventions: it is necessary therefore to activate the social dimension in the training of pastoral agents and guarantee a pastoral objective to all dimensions of clerical formation. Understanding formation as above all permanent is another valuable contribution: each person is the first actor in the initiative of his own formation, that is, in the choice of objectives and of effective contents and methods to achieve them. Good creativity is required to choose the right methods and to contextualize them according to the target group.
