Gerd Falk-Schalk, Michele Capurso
This article presents a study performed at the Ministries of Education of the Council of Europe member countries and aims to verify the opportunities available to minors with medical needs to access and take part in educational programmes. Even if all the countries that replied to the questionnaire forwarded confi rm that minors with medical needs have a right to education, the information collected shows that specifi c data do not exist in relation to this scenario nor initial hospital training courses for schoolteachers or for teachers providing home education.
The second part of the article examines the most common obstacles encountered in order to ensure minors with medical needs have an effective educational curriculum and a number of recommendations are also outlined to make respecting this right more effective and tangible.
