Il fenomeno del push e pull out nell’integrazione scolastica italiana

Heidrun Demo

Recent research data describes how the majority of pupils with disabilities spend part of their time outside of the classroom — this phenomenon is known as push and pull out. In this article results emerging from research carried out on this topic by the Research Group on School Integration and Inclusion (Gruppo di Ricerca sull’Integrazione e Inclusione Scolastica-GRIIS) by the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano are presented and discussed. The quantitative data highlights that the majority of pupils with disabilities experience the phenomenon during their school career,
despite there being slight differences in different school levels. Are we dealing with a phenomenon which puts the idea
of integration, which is heavily supported by Italian school legislation, at risk? An interpretation of the research results
suggests that the phenomenon is not homogeneous but instead that it can take three shapes: two of which can be considered
risky, the third, however, should be evaluated as an interesting innovative drive towards inclusive didactics.
