Autismo e interventi abilitativi e riabilitativi

Maria Teresa Cairo, Piervito Cucinelli

TED, which was developed in France at the beginning of the ’70s, has gained wide international recognition over the last few decades as an emotional-affective based therapy, which hinges on the clinical training of those who use it and those who are involved as teachers, parents and therapists. The basic theory is that an autistic child, resistant to innovation and change, can be stimulated at a perceptive, cognitive and sensory-motor level, in order to activate his or her natural curiosity through special exercises, activities and games. To pursue this goal the professional must operate following three behavioural criteria: calm, willingness and reciprocity. Teamwork allows for information exchange and comparisons on the child’s progress and/or difficulties.
