Sul filo del rasoio…
Benedetto Vertecchi
The article examines the different meanings which evaluation can assume in the various contexts. And the ambiguity that evaluation assumes, also in a positive sense, but always problematic, also and perhaps above all when it is evoked as an «absolute objective». In the debate on evaluation it is frequently confused with assessment. In actual fact, some matters can only be addressed on the educational plain, while avoiding a return to the old and dusty dispute concerning the expediency of using structured tests. The Jesuits and the Jansenists practised evaluations associated with educational proposals. The article mentions this aspect to highlight the misinterpretations inherent in the meritocratic claim, with a logic-synchronic foundation, whereas education should propose a diachronic logic.
