Una mattina come tante…

Rachael Wachera

The author of this article was removed from her position as the Head of Department after working for nine years as a physiotherapist at «St. Martin», in Kenya. Rachael had received complaints from the management following some disputes with her colleagues, these complaints ultimately resulted in her professional demotion despite having been passionately dedicated to her work and despite being proud to be an active member of the organisation. Feeling hurt and betrayed, Rachael had decided to abandon her work after completing her last assignment that envisaged a meeting with Girishon, a nine year old boy with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. But when the starving boy decided to share his meagre meal with her Rachael realised that hers was not a simple job but a true calling. She had then decided to remain in Kenya and later had participated in founding the L’Arche community. Now, after four years, the author offers an observation about the boy’s gesture, without which she would not have been able to appreciate the importance of sharing.
