Nobiltà d’animo
Marco Moschini
A consideration is developed concerning «noble-mindedness» starting from a recent news item, where noble-mindedness
is intended as the dissent from a kind of conformism that has its roots in indifference and in the logic of «minding one’s own business». In the majority of cases, today, indifference is the consequence of a relational script that steers social experience and a «transgression» is needed in order to escape. But in order to go that far, accountability education is required, training in the relationship with others, because opposing widespread conformism requires many personal qualities. It requires courage, emotional creativity, relational resources outside the individual, a
strong identity and sound self-esteem. Dissent that «becomes resistance» for a reason that is not exclusively to one’s
own advantage is an index of noble-mindedness and a token of dignity.
