The modernity of being outdates: Adriano Olivetti, pioneer of inclusive communitarianism
Alessandra M. Straniero
This article analyzes the vision of Adriano Olivetti about education, culture, and communities. His integrated approach to work, education, and culture promoted an idea of progress that placed the human being at the center of the production process, advocating for a vision that connected economic growth with the improvement of quality of life. The author focuses specifically on the concept of community, describing how Olivetti interpreted it both in spiritual and concrete terms, and depicts the intersections between Olivetti’s ideas and the concept of «community education». The article highlights how Adriano Olivetti represents a key figure in pedagogical studies, since his integrated vision of work, culture, and education provides innovative insights into the role of education in the social and business context. Olivetti’s belief that the workplace should also be a space for cultural and human growth challenges the traditional separation between school-based education and vocational training, laying the foundations for an education that values the interconnection between knowledge, work, and citizenship.
