The Ordinary Institution As Transformative Praxis. Georges Lapassade, a Forerunner for a Better Understanding of Our Present Time

Carla Gueli

Georges Lapassade (1924-2008), trained in philosophy, was a sociologist, educator, anthropologist, group psychosociologist, the founder of institutional analysis and a socio-analyst. Above all, he was an intellectual implicated in the issues affecting his contemporaries, particularly in youth movements or those considered more marginal. He was a teacher, university lecturer and social entertainer. Here, we would like to briefly present some concepts and tools, for the reading of the present, that Lapassade introduced throughout his life, through his works and practices: we would like at the very least to mention the constructs of institutional analysis, lifelong education, incompleteness and pedagogical self-management. We believe that these concepts, in close connection with the devices and practices that relate to them, are compasses for the reflection of trainers, teachers and educators who wish to orient themselves towards the development of the autonomy of subjects, both youths and adults, and to a greater understanding of our times.
