Parents and Inclusion: A Study on Specialized Assistance in the Lazio Region Seen From the Perspective of Recipients’ Families

The article presents the results of the first phase of the survey Genitori e inclusione: una ricerca sull’assistenza specialistica nel Lazio vista dalla prospettiva delle famiglie dei destinatari, promoted by the Lazio Region and conducted in collaboration with the University of Ferrara during the school year 2022-2023. The research objective is to know the families’ expectations of students receiving specialized assistance in higher secondary schools in the regional territory, their perceptions of the quality and effectiveness of the service, and their proposals for improvement. Qualitative interviews have been used for data collection. The article presents and analyzes the main issues that emerged from the 100 interviews between November 2022 and June 2023, focusing on comparing the families’ expectations and perceptions, the specific purposes of the service, and the needs that arise in school contexts.
