Supporting social emotional learning using the schoolwide model

Annalisa Morganti, Alessia Signorelli, Francesco Marsili

Inclusive education is a complex system which requires the active, conscious participation of all players involved and the implementation of specific actions which will improve its quality. This paper, the fruit of the combined efforts of three authors, tackles the topic of the implementation of the schoolwide approach to social emotional learning – SEL, as a specific strategy for promoting and improving not only pupils’ transversal competences but also the quality of inclusion itself at school, thanks to the active involvement of the entire educational community.
The experiences conducted within the scope of the EBE-EUSMOSI project show how these two elements (schoolwide SEL and inclusive processes) potentially benefit from each other. Further research, however, must be promoted in the Italian school context.
