Juvenile justice: Should we educate or punish?

Sheyla Werner, Cláudia Rodrigues de Freitas

This paper analyses a training programme involving two groups: health and educational workers and young violators that are under socio-educational measures in Brazil. The experience had the premise that the training programme was directed not only to users but also to operators. The teenagers were all male and many were psychiatric drug users. They were organised into groups and participated in regular meetings from March to November 2015. Analysis of the training allowed us to identify advances in their relationships as well as changes in the quality of treatment offered to the teenagers by the operators.
