Stopping in order to trace growth
Marina Maselli
How does one become an adult? With what help? Are there any ways to help us understand how the gradual construction of the adult condition of people with disabilities is achieved? What do they look like? Can they be linked to other experiences? These questions prompt a journey through several accounts which explore a central aspect of the life journey: becoming an adult and being considered as one. Like any other journey sometimes you need to stop. These stops help make the path clearer and become opportunities for encountering different experiences, told in different ways. Stories, memories and documentation are interlinked in this paper, confirming the fact that maintaining an active record of our growth is a way of becoming an adult.
