Provincial Helpdesk for Autism: The experience of a local support centre in Monza and Brianza

The typical characteristics of autism spectrum disorder, in correlation with the heterogeneity and the temporal and contextual variability of its manifestation, can generate serious problems within a team with negative consequences on the well-being of all the pupils and adults involved in the educational process. For this reason, after careful analysis of teachers’ needs and of data provided by healthcare and school authorities, the Local Support Centre for the Province of Monza and Brianza activated a Provincial Helpdesk in 2015, following the example of positive experiences already recorded in other areas of Italy. This article aims to share the experience of the Monza-Brianza Provincial Helpdesk for Autism, attempting to highlight its effectiveness and the strengths observed at the end of the monitoring phase.
