Women and intellectual disability: The selfdetermination perspective

Diana Carmela Di Gennaro

The paper aims to propose a reflection on the concept of self-determination in relation to women with intellectual disability, who often experience what the scientific literature defines as a «double disadvantage», namely the status of being women and the situation of disability.
In this sense, it seemed useful to adopt an interdisciplinary approach able to embrace the perspective of Feminist Disability Studies which could offer an additional lens for interpreting disability by focusing on the specific situation of female disability starting from a critical analysis of feminist theories within the framework of the Disability Studies.
