New trends in training processes for people with intellectual disabilities in Spain

Cristina Laborda Molla

The new integrative educational approach for people with intellectual disabilities (ID) in Spain has evidenced a change in the educational paradigm that promotes integral formation throughout life, and individual development.
The key points are transition to adult life, active life, integral work development and improvement of quality of life. These four elements are the axis of any pedagogical action directed at young people and adults with ID. This educational action is based on person-centred planning processes, and on own participation in the vital development of formative processes.
