Quando la barriera è nei dati…

Giacomo Guaraldi, Rosa Bellacicco

The systematic and periodic collection of statistics in special education is now, for all countries, a compulsory duty, which is required by many organisations at an international level. In particular, in Italy, the lack of data on students with disabilities and with learning difficulties is particularly severe at an academic level and the information currently produced on it by national observers is inadequate. This paper, however, reports the good practices of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, which has developed a tool that allows the career of each student with special educational needs to be quickly and easily monitored. This database, as well as providing valuable quantitative information both about student profiles and services offered, also acts as a repository of information and teaching suggestions for teachers, contributing to training and awareness at the university.
