Disability Studies in Education: che cosa sono e perché sono importanti per lo sviluppo di una scuola e un’università inclusive
Simona D’Alessio
The article aims to clarify the meaning of Disability Studies in Education (DSE) for the Italian context and how this new academic discipline can be used for the development of inclusion. Although the article will focus particularly on the American and Anglo-Saxon traditions within which DSE were firstly developed, the paper will address some of the differences between Italian DSE and international DSE. After having briefly outlined the research that is currently underpinned by a DSE theoretical framework, the paper will provide some suggestions on how to develop inclusive, and not merely integrative, schools and universities.
