A meta-phonology experience in a perspective of continuity between preschool and primary school

Cristina Bertoldo, Monica Callegari, Dirce Menghini

In this project we established the following objectives: to share knowledge, observation and evaluation instruments of phonological prerequisites, in a vision of vertical curriculum, among teachers of the two levels of schools; to offer preschool teachers the running of a meta-phonological workshop, in order to train, in particular, reading and writing prerequisites through solicitation of meta-phonology at an oral level, with the aim of reducing difficulties that have arisen; early identification of possible learning difficulties during the last year of preschool; to offer the possibility of a «bridge» for teaching meta-phonology in the two types of schools. Teacher training was offered to eleven schools (four primary schools which are part of the institute «G. Gabrieli» in Mirano – Venice, and seven preschools, including five private schools located in Mirano). The project was included in a continuity project between preschools and primary schools during the 2014-2015 school year. The screening was attended by all students attending the last year of the seven preschools, for a total of 145 children.
