The production of non-words and words in Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Elena Catelani, Marina Paparusso

Analysis demonstrates that the ability to produce both words and non-words, tends to increase with age in both samples, highlighting a real presence of Representational Redescription Processes (Karmiloff Smith, 1997) even in the development of language. Moreover, the two samples differ significantly in the two study variables; in particular, non-word production and word production with phonetic fluency appear to be more deficient in SLD subjects.
